Food number 1 – Frozen Produce
The wrong way – we often skip and neglect frozen foods when we go on grocery shopping. Thinking it’s unhealthy stored full of preservatives etc.
Correct way – always include some form of frozen foods and vegetables in your diet for reaping maximum benefits, nutrition from fruits and vegetables. The science behind it is that as the food produce ages it’s nutrients often break down and begin to diminish. But on the other hand, frozen food is often frozen at its prime ripe stage with all its nutrients and other healthy vitamins packed inside so it is more healthy than a week old produce which is often sold as fresh produce in grocery stores.
Food number 2 – Broccoli
The wrong way – Microwave them or boiling them
Correct way – The correct and best way to cook broccoli is steaming them. Broccoli contains sulforaphane a plant compound that has strong anti-cancer properties. Steaming broccoli helps retain a large amount of sulforaphane. Steaming is a slower cooking method that cooks food on a low heat and doesn’t kill myrosinase. Myrosinase is an enzyme which helps to release sulforaphane which is often killed with other traditional cooking methods
Food number 3 – Tomatoes
The wrong way – eating raw tomatoes
Correct way – slightly heating them up. Tomatoes contain lycopene a chemical that helps to increase anti-oxidant levels in a body. And surprisingly heating tomatoes slightly before eating them helps to increase the lycopene levels in them. Tomatoes are linked to lowering the risk of stroke, helps fight prostate cancer, and preserve the brain with age. So the best way to eat tomatoes is to slightly heat them in olive oil for the best result.
Food number 4 – Wine
The wrong way – letting a bottle breathe
Correct way – Drinking from a freshly opened bottle. When red wine is let to breathe or decanted for 12 or more hours the organic acids and polyphenols within it start to break down.
